Our Year 7 and 8 students have been attending the Technology programme at Mansell Senior School since our Intermediate unit first opened in 1999.
We have been satisfied with the structure of the programme there, and the expertise and professionalism of their specialist technology / arts' teachers. At Mansell, they have a proactive team of teachers led by Chris Burden (Team Leader). They believe in openness in their teaching and have a willingness to help educate our pupils.
The Mansell Senior programme is a planned two-year Technology / The Arts study. Over the course of two years, our students plan, design, research and produce articles according to the appropriate curriculum documents.
Practical activities are supported by relevant theory to enable our students to make wise decisions within their learning. Six of the seven areas of Technology, that are required to be covered during the Year 7 and Year 8 time at school, are taught.
.Technology / The Arts Subjects taught at Mansell are:
Some schools, families and pupils call Technology by previous names of Woodwork, Cooking, etc. This does not mean that the technology has not moved forward, but that the old-fashioned terms are held with fond regard by many people.
Our students attend Technology for one 1 and a half hour block each week, rotating through the 6 subject areas over the two year period.
During the summer months, Students, accompanied by supervising teachers, walk to and from Mansell Senior School. During the winter months, bus transport is provided by Opaheke School.
