E nga mana, e nga reo e nga tangata, tena koutou katoa. Greetings to all of you as we already are well into a very busy Term Three. Last week we welcomed 8 new enrolments. E nga wiki o te reo: as a school we learn about the meaning of some local places eg Opaheke, Papakura, Pukekohe, Manukau, Karaka. Behind each name there is a story. Opaheke means the place of the great slip or paheke. I was told by an elderly Maori that this referred to a major land slip that occurred on Ponga Hill down towards Coalmine Road many years ago.
