At Ōpaheke School, we are committed to providing the best ICT facilities and services that we can to both staff and students.
The school’s computer network, Internet access facilities, computers and other school ICT equipment/devices bring great benefits to the teaching and learning programmes at Ōpaheke School and to the effective operation of the school.
Our school has rigorous cyber-safety practices in place, which include cyber-safety use agreements for all school staff and students. The overall goal of the school in this matter is to create and maintain a cyber-safety culture, which is in keeping with the values of the school, and legislative and professional obligations.
The school’s computer network, Internet access facilities, computers and other school ICT equipment/devices are for educational purposes appropriate to the school environment. Ōpaheke School uses filtering and monitoring software to monitor traffic and material sent and received using the school’s ICT network.
As part of our teaching and learning programme we offer pupils supervised access to the Internet. Before our school allows students to use these facilities, we must obtain parental permission. Pupils and parents must sign and return a cyber-safety use agreement form as evidence of their acceptance of the school’s guidelines for responsible ICT use. Once signed consent has been returned to school, students will be able to use the school ICT equipment/devices.
A complete version of our Cyber Safety Policy can be found in SchoolDocs.
Student User Agreements

Digital technologies and devices like laptops and tablets are tools that can help us learn at school in all sorts of ways. We can look at interesting things online, talk to people, create new ideas, and learn how to do different things on apps and websites.
When we use digital technologies, we need to learn how to keep ourselves safe, and make good choices in ways we behave when we are online. At Ōpaheke School we call this being a ‘digital citizen’. Good digital citizens help to make our school a safe and positive place for everyone.
Our user agreements outline what Ōpaheke School does to help make learning online safe, and what we need to do. It is not always easy to understand everything about online spaces, because there are so many things to use and explore, and that’s why it’s important that we all try to make it as safe as possible.

Publication of Image and Work

Ōpaheke School uses a range of learning technologies to enhance student learning. From time to time, we publish material for educational purposes to share our learning within the school community, and to promote our school within the wider community.
Images of our students (photographs, video clips, etc.), and examples of their schoolwork, are sometimes published in our newsletters, on our school website, and other online channels such as the school/class blogs, Facebook page, YouTube, etc. taking part in school or class activities.
