ESOL (English for speakers of other languages)

DSC_0005

We have a growing number of students who are eligible to receive extra tuition with their reading and writing and speaking of English. These tamariki work in small groups with a learning support teacher in either withdrawal groups or within the classroom.

Rainbow Reading

DSC_0014

Rainbow Reading is a programme designed to support students who are reading at a level below their peers. It is great for providing essential mileage in reading. This programme will generally improve interest, skill level, fluency and comprehension. Our learning support teachers work with the tamariki to support them with this programme. Rainbow Reading is additional to their classroom instruction. Rainbow Reading can be used to support ESOL programmes.

Steps Web

Steps Web is another programme to support students who are reading below their peers. This is designed for students who struggle with understanding letter sounds, blends and phonemes. Steps Web helps our tamariki to learn to decode words, spell words correctly, use the word in the correct context.
