Learning with Digital Technologies

Our Digital Journey

Room 24 9 Sep (9)

Effective, high-quality teaching and learning is at the core of what we do. Our people are our most important resource, students and families, our teachers and our leaders. We have a clear and shared understanding of how learning with digital technologies can support our vision of success for all our students.

Growing our knowledge and expertise is important, and building in ways to sustain this, is critical to our success. Ensuring our teachers have the skills they need to work in digital ways is always a consideration when we plan and implement professional learning. Some of our teachers participate in the Microsoft Innovative Educators Expert program. This global network of teachers provides opportunities to collaborate and learn from expert teachers from across the world.

We recognise that we are preparing our students for a world which will be very different as they enter the workforce. We want to foster an environment that encourages students to take responsibility of their own learning, as well as promoting collaboration so they can learn better together and from each other. Our students are diverse; their learning needs are also diverse. Incorporating digital technologies into learning allows teachers to better differentiate and personalise learning. Students have greater choice and are able to share responsibility for their learning. Developing learner agency is important to us.

Microsoft Technologies help us grow our culture of collaboration, caring and community. Tools like OneNote, Teams, SharePoint and Minecraft help make learning visible to students, to parents and teachers. They ensure we can continue learning beyond the walls of our classrooms and beyond the time constraints of our school day. One Note Class Notebooks help teachers collect, curate and distribute lessons to our students quickly and easily and Microsoft Teams is just how we get things done! The range of tools and applications available to us have allowed us explore, experiment, and change direction as we discover more effective ways to support, drive and share learning.

What our Students Say:

Using a device saves time, I can just get more work done especially writing! Spelling and grammar errors are way easier to see and correct . - Abhay

Our teacher can provide extra information like videos and explanations to help us understand. If I get stuck I can go back and revisit those easily. I don’t have to wait for the teacher when I have finished by my work, I can be more productive by using learning apps to keep on learning. - Pranavi

Working with OneNote helps keep things organised.  I can find things quicky and easily. It saves my teacher time too, sharing information and giving feedback too like comments and digital stickers - Angi

Quote from Jade:

‘Technology has made a positive difference to the way our children learn, understand their learning, and interact with others. Don’t hesitate to embrace it. But let’s not forget that learning should be the ultimate goal- technology is simply the enabler’ – Jade Tawhiti, Principal
